Community Education Centres

Community Educations located through out Falkirk, provide local groups with a venue in which to practice their disciplines, playing host to a vast array of groups from documenting time to junior highland dancing, these centres play a vital part in youth development and preservation of their community. Serving their local area these centres open entire community allow inhabitants to participate in social, educational and leisure time activities. Photoshop Class

The Centre for Social Arts is offering people in Falkirk to take part in a trial run of a photoshop tutorial class, with the intention of creating a series of classes depending on the popularity of the initial trial. 

Due to take place at the CVS/Volunteer Centre at Falkirk Business Park, the event provides an insight into the basic and fundamental elements of Adobe Photoshop, ranging from amending photographs to drawing quick and simple graphics. For £20 per person, attendants will receives an in depth guide on how to make the most of the basic functions the program has to offer, topics covered are what do the main buttons do, how to implement them on an entry level and how these can be applied to enhance photography, plus more to be added depending on the customer's needs. This course is ideal for anyone with no or limited experience of Adobe Photoshop. 

It is required for everyone attending to provide their own laptop and copy of Photoshop, the work of the instructor will be projected and effectively taught so watching and note taking is possible but not recommended as the best way to let the program is through a hands on approach.

Falkirk Festival chorus proudly presents its 40th annual concert.

They will perform "The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace" by Karl Jenkins and "Messe Solennelle de Sainte Cecile" by Gounod. The Chorus will be accompanied by the Scottish Concert Orchestra conducted by Robert Tait. Guest soloists will be Rhona McKail (Sporano), Raoni Hubner (Tenor) and Nicholas Morris (Bass).

Conductor Robert Tait will give a preconcert talk at 6.30pm which is free to ticket holders.

Tryst Festival 2013

Tryst Festival is an annual festival featuring the best of the Arts in Falkirk district.

Held annually in May, the Tryst Festival is a celebration of all aspects of the visual and performing Arts including music, theatre, dance, drama, magic, exhibitions, seminars, writing, events and family shows. Involving local, community and professional groups from across Falkirk District and Scotland it truly has 'something for everyone'.

The Tryst Festival is organised by Falkirk Arts and Civic Council with support from Falkirk Community Trust and Falkirk Council.

Groups included in this year's event are Falkirk Folk Club, Larbert Opera, Forth Valley Magic Circle, Classic Music Live! Falkirk, Falkirk Floral Arts Club, Falkirk Writers, Falkirk Camera Club plus many many more...

The festival kicks of on the 11th of May with a parade through out Falkirk Town Centre which is followed by a Larbert Opera's new production Follies at the Dobbie Hall, Larbert/Stenhousemuir. Tickets are available at the Steeple box office Falkirk.

Falkirk Camera Club

Falkirk Camera Club - a Snapshot of its History and Current Activities

On March 22nd 1889 a meeting was held with the purpose of forming an Amateur Photographic Association. "The objects of the Association (reported the Falkirk Herald) are the advancement of photographic art and science in the district, and the mutual improvement of the members"

A committee was formed, with Mr William Graham as President, and thus was born the Falkirk Amateur Photographic Association (FAPA). The first meeting of the club took place on April 5th 1889 and the club already had between 20 and 30 members. Documented reports show that FAPA ran to at least 1907 but it probably continued until the outbreak of WW I.

The club has been through many incarnations since, reforming after WW I as Falkirk & District Photographic Society (1922-33); becoming part of Falkirk School of Art Club and Photographic Circle (1934-38); continuing after WW II as Falkirk Art & Photographic Club (1946-57) - although, from 1949, this was generally referred to as the Falkirk Art Club (FAC).

Then, in 1953, the East Stirlingshire Camera Club (ESCC) was formed and existed in parallel with FAC until 1958 when, at its AGM of April 17th 1958, it decided - not without some debate - to re-name itself Falkirk Camera Club (FCC). So this then is the official 'birthday' of FCC. After this time there are no reports of photography as a section of FAC so, it would appear, FCC had united the photographers of FAC and ESCC into a single club.

Over the past few years Geof Longstaff has researched the history of all of these local camera clubs and produced a 90 minute Audio-Visual presentation of his findings, a copy of which is now held in the Falkirk Archives in Callendar House.

The A-V contains details and images of the club's founders; its many office bearers; trophy winners; successful images from the past; awards and successes in external and national competitions; club venues; FCC's place in the community; portraits of all of FCC's Past Presidents and more besides.

FCC, with it's objectives having changed little, is still thriving with some 60 members and meets every Thursday evening at 7.45pm in Erskine Church Hall, Falkirk between September and April. The club programme consists of a broad mixture of talks, instructional evenings, internal and external competitions and outings with the latter organised mainly in the summer months.

Members have a wide range of interests and abilities and we like to consider ourselves as being an inclusive club. We compete successfully against local camera clubs. While some individual members have gained recognition as winners in the national photographic scene, collectively as a club we have recently made our mark by reaching the finals of the Scottish Photographic Federation Digital Knock-out competition on two successive years and last year we were the top Scottish camera club in the GB Small Camera Clubs Competition.

Falkirk Old and St Modan's

St Modan's Church are looking to let out their church hall to Falkirk's Voluntary Arts Groups, this is an ideal opportunity for groups looking to exhibit their artwork or a place to regularly to meet in order to participate in arts and crafts events.

The Church is located in the heart of Falkirk Town Centre, a great venue with a large amount of the public on its doorstep.
